Back Surgery and Neck Surgery
90 days post-op 2 level ACDF...finally some pain improvement!

Hey everyone!!! Wave

I first need to say that I am so sorry for not posting in a while to support others. Things have been hectic. I have had a lot going on and I also have been out and about doing more.

My ACDF was on C 4-5 and C 5-6. Right before Thanksgiving I had an appt. with my Ortho spine surgeon. he did an X-ray and said that things look like they are going great and I am ready to trasition out of my soft collar.
So at this time I do not wear it very much...I keep one in my car for when I might need to have it on. On an occasion i feel I need to use it while sleeping.

The Ortho referred me to Physical Therapy and my first appt/evaluation will be next week. Then I will go 2 x a week for four weeks. I feel I have great ROM but it does cause pain, but not to bad.

The ortho said I can go to the Gym and do things like the stair stepper and the Elyptical (sp) without the arm movements and the treamill. He said wait to be done with PT and then I am cleared to go but to take it slow and easy and NO WEIGHTS..not ready for that.

He told me that my fusion will not be solid for a year so I really need to be mindful of that.

I am still on a lot of meds at this time, but t the last visit with the PM who I will se again I think on Dec 11th we had decided not to decrease anything untill I got out of the soft collar comletely and had started the PT. So hopefully soon if my neck pain will allow it...there will be a decreasing process in the future...Not looking forward to that part, but it is doable...it just needs to be done very slow and gradual...I have already done some decreas n the BT meds so that is good.

well I really got to get up an moving ..I have a few errands this morning and then study study study for my Final exam next Monday...

I am thinking and praying for you all as usual. And TerriJV if your out there and reading I hope your surgery went well and your feeling ok. I am praying for you all the time.

Hearts and Hugs everyone!!
Chrissy

_____________

Since May of 2004 I have had 2 female surgeries and 4 arm surgeries. The arm injury happened on Sept. 17 2004 and was a work Comp injury. After 3 1/2 years of comp I finally got better and was off all meds. This was very short lived as I was in an MVA on July 10, 2007 and recieved a neck injury. Good thing was it was not my fault. Workers comp closed their case in Aug. 2007 and because of the neck injury I still am unable to work. It was found I have bulging discs at C 3-6 with tears in those discs. At C 6-7 there is fissuring in the bulging disc. In Jan of 2008 I had a Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy at C 3-4 C 4-5. I was told before this surgery that I would need later fusion. I am still having awful pain and I am in the process of awaiting a 2 or 3 level ACDF. I had a discogram in May 2008 and that was the most painful test ever...Yikes! One Day at a Time and don't forget to BREATHE! Smile
UPDATE:
two level ACDF C 4-5 and C 5-6 on September 3, 2008. This makes surgery # 8 and I really hope it might be the last!!
