Spinal Stenosis
Spinal Stenosis strange sympton

My mom has arthritis in her lower back and has spinal stenosis. I am so tired of seeing her suffering and am looking for anyone else who might have the same sympton she does.

She has these "attacks" where she sweats profusly. She sweats so bad that she has to carry a towel with her at all times and has to change her clothes because they are so wet. Does anyone here have that or know of someone who does? She thinks she crazy because all of the stuff that we have found NEVER mentions this sweating. The dr told her it is called HYPERHYDROSIS. Well if you look that up it doenst mention anything about stenosis. All it talks about is sweating of the hands, feet and underarms. When she has these attacks she sweats from head to toe.

She has been to several dr.s but the only thing they want to do is cut her open. they have told her if she goes through with the surgery their not sure they will fix it. Any help or info will be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Spine Health!!!

Greetings, I suffer from stenosis amongst many other problems and have never had that happen. Is she taking any meds that maybe having this as a side effect?

Did she ever have episodes before the diagnosis?

The only times I sweat that bad is low blood sugar, panic attacks and extreme pain.I have no medical knowledge just what I have going on myself, but those would be my first places to look. That is truly odd, of course I am a male, but pardon my saying this could it be hormonal?I did not mean to offend, just offering suggestions.

I GET THE SAME THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get waves of the sweats. My hair actually is dripping wet in the back. It happens alot at night but I do get it during the day. Im really sweating now after my epi injection 2 weeks ago. Im thinking its maybe from the meds. I take Oxycontin, oxycodone , zanaflex. What meds does your Mom take?

Hi ya

It could be a hormone related issue or possibly a side effect from her meds.

The menapause causes excessive sweating, I also think it can be a symptoor thyriod issues and similar.

I am not a doctor though - if it is problematic, she should get medical opinion.

The stenosis and back pian may cause sweating but this is a physical reaction to severe pain at the time and I guess she would be too busy complaining about her pain than worry about her perspiration...you know, similar way to heart beateing faster when you get scared.

I hope that helps, it is only my opinion.

Thank you for all your

Thank you for all your responses!

She has sought medical attention for this problem. It is not hormonal or a side effect from the meds. The dr.s say that its caused from the stenosis. From what I understand and what she has been explained is the stenosis is "choking" nerves in her spinal column and the nerve that controls the sweating is the one that is being pinched. We both have done research on the internet and NO ONE has ever had this sympton. I'm sorry I dont know what kind of meds she is on and no she did not have this probelm before. We know this is a very strange sympton but I am just trying to find anyone that has anything similar. She did find one dr that kind of knew what she was talking about and gave her a pill to take but it didnt work. She is so frustrated and wont leave the house because she is constantly "wet". I can't even begin to describe how much she sweats during these attacks. She said that it starts at the top of her head and it kind of tingles and feels like every pore in her body is opening and then she is just drenched. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I understand none of you are drs and can only give me your own experiences but im just hoping that i can find someone that is or has experienced what she is. I can't stand to see her suffer anymore.

Spinal Stenosis strange sympton

I to0 had the same symptoms: nausea, sweats almost flu like. Turns out it was my meds(narcotic). Almost like withdrawal symptoms.
